Research Associate - Discovery Pharmacology (FTC)
Based in Cambridge with nearly 80 employees, our client are a leading biotherapeutic company with a specialism within the Oncology field. They are expanding extensively at the moment, and are looking for applications for a number of positions within their research teams.
They are actively seeking applications for applicants for their Research Associate within the discovery pharmacology team. The position is initially on a 12-month FTC.
The successful applicant will have prior hands-on experience of assay development and screening in an industry setting. Direct experience of mammalian cell culture and development, optimisation and validation of cell-based technologies such as reporter gene assays and flow cytometry is highly desirable. You will enjoy a varied and rewarding role, developing and running a range of in vitro assays to screen and characterise novel peptides identified by the clients platform. You will be joining an established and expanding biology team, supporting multiple programs across a diverse range of therapeutic areas. You will be predominantly lab-based and responsible for generating key affinity, selectivity and mechanism of action data by running biochemical and cell-based, binding and functional assays with the aim of identifying and characterising high affinity peptides.
+ Maintain mammalian cell cultures using aseptic technique, providing assay-ready cells to the wider team.
+ Use existing validated biochemical, biophysical and cell-based assays to characterize within a matrixed drug discovery team to agreed timelines
+ You will be expected to analyze and critically interpret assay data, to characterize the pharmacology and mechanism of action.
+ Problem-solve, troubleshoot and identify potential next steps, improvements and alternative/novel technologies
+ Record experiments accurately and diligently in electronic lab books and databases
Key Skills and Competencies
+ BSc in a relevant field plus prior experience from at least one role in a pharmaceutical or biotech setting
+ Previous experience in mammalian cell culture and performing cell-based binding and functional assays such as flow cytometry and signalling assays
+ Previous experience across a diverse array of assay platforms (e.g. SPR, fluorescence polarisation, HTRF, AlphaScreen) plus an interest in developing and implementing new technologies
+ Strong team-work and interpersonal skills.
+ Experience with small molecule drug discovery projects and a robust understanding of the wider drug discovery process
+ Experience in using data analysis software packages, databases and ELNs e.g. Dotmatics and GraphPad Prism
