Senior Bioinformatician: Cambridge

My client is a pioneering BioTech company involved in the exploration of microbiomes for treatments in illnesses such as IBD and Immuno-Oncology. With clinical trials already underway and more planned in the near future, this is a very exciting time in this area of BioTech.

As a result of expansion plans, a Senior Bioinformatician is sought for an initial 12-month FTC.

What does the Role entail?

* The analysis and interpretation metagenomics data to identify biomarkers of disease and novel live bacterial therapeutic leads
* The development of tools for integration and comparison of large-scale metagenomics datasets (and related metadata)
* The identification, development and implementation of new analytical, statistical and machine-learning methods to improve and extend the informatics platform
* Collaboration with multi-disciplinary projects and teams in order to perform end-to-end data analysis

Experience Sought;

* PhD or Master’s degree in Bioinformatics or related discipline, or equivalent experience
* Experience leading the development of bioinformatics methods and/or pipelines
* Experience in the analysis of large-scale datasets
* Knowledge in microbial genomics and/or metagenomics
* Coding capability in a language such as Perl or Python
* An understanding of Linux (command-line)

Bonus areas;

* Knowledge of Machine Learning
* Expertise in biostatistics
* Familiarity with transcriptomics and/or metabolomics data
* Experience in data visualisation techniques/tools
* An understanding of phylogenetic/taxonomic classification of genomes and metagenomes
